When you have a favorite brick and mortar restaurant, sometimes it might be harder to get excited about food truck offerings in the same food genre.

With Mary’s Pizza Shack in Redding and Anderson, that could easily be seen as the case. That is until owners Charlew and Kathy Byerly decided to take their show — and their and superb Italian-style pizza — on the go with a food truck. Suddenly, the ability to serve catering and other events throughout Shasta and Tehama counties gave foodies reason to get excited beyond the restaurant.

The happily married couple is always on-site with Kathy behind the register and Charlew managing the brick, wood-fire oven, which is straight out of Italy. It cooks a pie to perfection in just a couple of minutes.

Their belief that making pizza should be kept simple, but with the flavors anything but, have led them to a lot of success in the North State feeding happy customers. The passion they show for serving the best of the best radiates and creates a fun, charismatic atmosphere.

The fresh ingredient recipes and homemade dough have been passed down by Mary herself, Charlew’s Noni. And they will please your taste buds every time. Join them for wood-fire pizzas, Philly cheese steaks, garlic or pesto fried, and much more to become part of the familia.
